Authors Purpose:
The author, Margeret Peterson Haddix had many things going on in her life when they wrote the novel Among the Hidden. On Margeret Peterson Haddix's website, haddixbooks.com, she said she made this book on one main idea. On the website, haddixbooks.com, it states, "I first started thinking about Among the Hidden when my husband and I were trying to decide whether to have a third child, or whether to stop with two. All the reasons we could come up with for having or not having another baby seemed entirely subjective, more emotional than rational—except the possibility that the world was overpopulated, and it might be irresponsible to have more than two kids. I remember thinking in frustration one night, “Well, if overpopulation were that bad of a problem, there’d be a law, that nobody could have a third child!” My next thought was, “What if there was a law like that?” I knew instantly that I had a good idea for a book, regardless of what my husband and I decided." This is why she decided to write the novel, Among the Hidden.
This connects to the setting of the novel Among the Hidden in one main way. The whole book, Among the Hidden, is based on the law of not being able to have a third child. In Haddix's reasoning for writing the novel she said, "Well, if overpopulation were that bad of a problem, there’d be a law, that nobody could have a third child!” My next thought was, “What if there was a law like that?” I knew instantly that I had a good idea for a book." This is how the authors purpose for writing the novel connects with the novels theme.
In the novel, Among the Hidden, I see Margeret Peterson Haddix being Luke's mother. I see her being this because she wanted a third child just like Luke's Mother. She is also like Luke's mother because Margeret Peterson Haddix is also a mother.
That is why Margeret Peterson Hadix is most like Luke's mother.
